The cute, bubbly girl of “Koi mil Gaya” or “Dil se” is now shifting her focus from modern, main-stream films to the off-beat ones. Soon we will see her in internationally acclaimed Rituparno Ghosh’s upcoming venture, The Last Lear. The film, based on the Bengali play “Aajker Shahjahan” by Utpal Dutt, focuses on the conflict between theatre and screen as well as on inter personal relationship. Preity will be seen playing the role of an actress in traditional Bengali dresses, wearing bindis and having her long flowing hair open. The film was already selected to be premiered at the prestigious Toronto film festival. As co stars, Preity will have Amitabh Bachchan [playing an ageing and fading Shakespearean actor], Arjun Rampal[as a rising hot-shot], Jishu Sengupta and Shefali Shah.

By far Preity has reigned in Bollywood with her glamour, full-off-bean attitude and killing dimples. But now it’s time to see her on-screen-appearance with minimum make up. With The Last Lear she has just turned over a new leaf and we will see her in more such serious roles. She is in talks with Saji Karun’s film Suryamukhi where as Jahnu Barua has already involved her in his forthcoming Har Pall.

Preity lost her father in an early age and then struggled hard to enter the showbiz. Once she also spoke about how she took a long hard look towards life after having a close view of tsunami in 2005. So to scan how these changes of our well-known Preity whiz into our hearts, let’s wait until her new ventures hit the screen.

The U.S. Library of Congress is going to display the first map to use the name ‘America‘, created by ancient German cartographer Martin Waldseemuller.

This world map is the first document to indicate the western hemisphere and label the Pacific Ocean. The cartographer drew this map in early 1507. Later the map was lost in a library of a German castle for 400 years and was rediscovered in 1901. Ultimately in 2003 US Library of Congress purchased the 12 sheets of 4-ft by 8-ft document for 10 million US dollars from Prince Johannes Waldburg-Wolfegg. Now the Library is going to display this precious treasure of cartography in public.

This map has drawn lots of attention not just because of its antique value but also for some unsolved doubts and confusion, that it has created among the research scholars and specialists. The map maker displayed the Pacific Ocean as its own body of water long years before it was found. He had also portrayed South America almost seamlessly. Before sketching the map Waldseemuller collected lots of information from the famous explorers like Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci and some other unknown Portuguese and Spanish resources. But John Hebert, Chief of the Geography and Map division of library believes that as the way Vespucci described,it was almost impossible to draw such a near-perfect sketch of America. Library of Congress said that the map represents a total contemporary view of the world. Another doubt is also troubling the specialists. They are busy finding the reasons why the German scholar stopped using the name ‘America’ in the next maps. Rather he started indicating this land as ‘terra incognita‘ or ‘unknown land’. Afterwards he also gave misgivings as he first mistakenly named that new territory as ‘America’ after Vespucci’s first name, thinking that he [and not Columbus] had discovered that.

The researchers believe that the map may disclose some more unknown facts. However, for the time being, the library has decided to exhibit it in its specialized display casing from December 13, 2007.

At last the winner’s smile cracked into her face! Jessica Simpson is pretty happy as her Blonde Ambition is ultimately going to hit the big screen before hitting the DVD tracks. After reports that skipping the theaters Blonde Ambition will get a DVD treatment straight away in January, production houses like Nu Image and Millennium Films have given a limited chance to run the movie on Christmas occasion.

According to Elizabeth Wolfe, a spokeswoman for the film’s production company the film will be released theatrically on December 21 this year.

But the romantic comedy will hit only eight halls of Texas. The production houses had chosen Texas as Jessica Simpson and Luke Wilson both the movie-stars are from Texas. So perhaps Jessica will get a considerable response from her native Texas. Elizabeth believes that the film has a cute story line and Jessica fans will be thrilled after watching the movie. She also stated that they have all the confidence in her. But once it opens the production house has decided to assess its pros and cons and also to measure the response that it will draw over Christmas. If the movie gets a reasonable success then they may consider releasing it in other states before it gets the DVD release.

Blond Ambition also stars Andy Dick and Rachael Leigh Cook along with Jessica and Wilson. On the same context Elizabeth added that:

We’ve done a second film with Jessica, Major Movie Star (slated for 2008 release)

When a major break down occurs in the power stations I wonder how people from our busy metros curse the electricity board. If you pass by a multiplex or a market place at night just open up your eyes and you’ll find how much electricity are being wasted every day. All the retail outlets and shopping parks consumed loads of power in their advertising boards and light boxes for attracting people.

So here comes the innovative and eco friendly creation of Grayhatch which is surely going to have a huge impact on the environment. Their low-energy “bio-luminescent material” powered by solar panels replaces wasteful light-bulbs in the advertising panels above the bench, which also gives customers a pretty comfy spot to sit. As these all have been made of recycled plastic career bags Grayhatch claims the benches have a zero carbon footprint and could each save 200 tones of pollution from entering into the atmosphere every year.

This system collects solar energy through out the day time and gets illuminated at night providing almost zero percent pollution. Being fervent about the total idea Greyhatch has got a huge order for 3,000 benches over three years from UK and abroad. So lets just hope for the best and wish this eco friendly bench comes in sight every where we go.

There’s been a lot of huff and puff about RFID technology for the last few years, lots of concepts have been flying around regarding retail, food labeling or clothes tags. So, how are you being comfortable with this RFID idea? Mostly, people get tired of the meticulous process of reading a tag when washing clothes and a statistics says that

almost 70% of people don’t even read the care labels after purchasing and when they do, it’s usually too late.

So, designer Samgmin Bae has come up with a brand new idea about implementing this RFID concept. His Smart Clothing Care Labels might make your task a lot easier while taking care of your expensive dresses. These tags can communicate with RFID-enabled washers, dryers, irons, presses, and dry cleaning equipment!

You don’t have to look after the settings too. All these will be controlled automatically. You have to do nothing, but to load your clothes, add detergent, and shut the lid. The tag, attached to your dress itself is cleverly designed to use the RFID circuitry to form the care icons — by telling the washer how it should be laundered!

So, this one-inch square tag will assure you that the clothes aren’t ruined, even if you don’t have time to go through the tag instructions.

OLED[organic light emitting diode] and quadruple full-HD technologies represent an entirely new paradigm in picture resolution technology. This year Samsung showcased its 31” Active Matrix OLED TV set at CES in Las Vegas.

Electronics manufacturers have already begun exhibiting these next-generation displays at major trade shows, but Samsung has gone a step further at CES 2008. The OLED is being presented as a finished TV product that features an elegant and optimized design with one of the thinnst and largest TV screen. Interestingly, this product offers a brighter, clearer and more vivid picturethan a regular TV and it also consumes lesser power.

OLED pixels genrate lights and don’t ned any backlighting. A statistics shows that electricity needed by a regualr C.R.T. is almost double by that of the LCD TV where as OLED TV saves another 40% than an LCD one while boasting a contrast ratio of 1 million to one, color gamut of 107% and brightness of 550nit.. So This upcoming OLED technology can be utilised for energy conservation too without compromising with the performance or features either. So going with the market trend Samsung has decided to begin commercial production of mid- to large-sized OLED TVs around 2010.

SCHOTT has launched one of its magnificent creation, what we call as floating lights and that’s also practically invisible. The multiplex or office rooms of the corporate world are sure to get a cooler look by these wonder lights. To be more accurate, this LightPoints system actually uses LEDs that are sandwiched between two pieces of laminated glass. And the total set is hung from the ceiling. What’s cool is the transparency [as you can see in the picture] and it will stun you.

You’ll feel as if the system is floating in space! Now, the question is — what about the wires and cables? Then the answer is — the system uses a Polyvinyl Butyral Foil (PVB) laminate, which is a pre-structured clear conductive coating that allows electricity to reach the LEDs without the use of visible wiring.

Interestingly, the power can be delivered through conductive circuits on top of the glass, which allows any necessary wiring to be built into the surrounding panels. Moreover, if the glass had a dense-enough pattern of LEDs, it could also be used to play back messages or other more complex animations when needed. The LEDs are also available in white, blue and green and emit light in both directions.

So, if you are really interested to give that extra effect to your surrounding, get a nice interactive architecture with this latest set.

Are you looking for a designed phone that’s pretty compatible to your personal style and does not compromise on features or performance, either? This New Year, Sony Ericsson has launched its latest model Z555 and you can find all the features you need in it. Maybe some extra facets which you never expected are also there in the elegant clamshell, that combine Gesture Control with a one-of-a-kind diamond design.

Its gesture control quality that maximizes the use of the embedded camera, while making, ignoring a call or snoozing the alarm is as easy as a wave of your hand. When a call comes in, a simple movement of your hand back and forth over the phone mutes the ringtone. Similarly, sweep your hand over the phone when using it as your alarm clock to put it into snooze mode.

The style and look that you endure can be perfectly set off by Z555. Its gorgeous outside display shows you who is calling even without opening the clamshell. As your own mood changes with the time your cell will also change its look to suit the season. The colors and designs that appear within the phones themes, effect the look of the menu system and home screen, can update automatically as the year goes by.

Store your favorite music tracks or audio books on the phone and what’s more, you can also sort them by chapters, albums or artists. Get the most out of a simple lamp. Often you may find all the wires or adopters are creating a wired mess on your desk when you are working with a regular table lamp. In addition the charger-cords of your cell may annoy you more. So, Herrington has come up with a multitasking lamp which allows you to recharge your cell phone, iPod or PDA at the same time while illuminating your work space.

All you have to do is, plug your cell or iPod recharger into the back of your charging desk lamp then place your device securely in the base. Thus you can save yourself from the agony of wires and clutter all around your desk and paper piles.

The lamp is with two powerful heads that pivot and swivel for optimal lighting to let you enjoy the soothing natural daylight simulated by the Twin Full-Spectrum bulbs. This reduces your regular eyestrain too. The bulb will last for 8000 hours long and delivers 140-watts of lighting which is enough to show the clearer text. This also includes replaceable accent caps in some arresting colors like Black, Razor Pink, Gold, Silver, Green, and Blue to go with most of your gadgets. You can add this to your cart when you have to pay just $49.95.
